Join us for a pilot Children’s Vegetable Garden-to-Go program!
This fall, access to the children’s garden will be interrupted due to construction on the Dairy Barn. So, our intrepid Master Gardeners have designed a container-to-go gardening program specifically for families. We are excited about this new program. Space is limited, so please register soon.

About the Program
Set at the park’s Salado Outdoor Classroom, the Garden-to-Go program is a place for children aged 5 to 14 to get their hands dirty as they learn every aspect of gardening, from planting to harvesting.
With the help of volunteers from the Bexar County Master Gardeners, students begin each Tuesday morning with a hands-on activity, then followed by a related lesson. Children have fun gardening while learning about teamwork, agricultural commodities, nutrition, and how to be good land stewards.
What to Expect
Seven grow bags, with soil and planted vegetables, will be sent home with families to care. The ability to take two grow bags home at a time will be required.
Demonstration lessons showing planting techniques and sharing tips for successful growing of cauliflower, broccoli, radishes, carrots, oregano, and more.
Hands-on gardening time for your children.
Educational sessions in our outdoor classroom with lessons on horticulture, nutrition, natural science, and journaling.
"Check the plants" time with a Master Gardener volunteer to ensure that you are on track for a successful growing season.
Garden-To-Go Expectations
Participants should (1) be on time every Tuesday by 9 a.m., (2) participate in all hands-on demonstrations, (3) attend all lessons, and (4) notify leaders of any absences before class.
A parent/guardian/adult must attend and be available to help their child/children each Tuesday.
Siblings under five years old are not permitted inside the garden. Parents and guardians are expected to assist children in the garden; therefore, care for siblings under five needs to be arranged.
Families can take their littles down to the nearby playground while a guardian stays with the young gardener(s).
Participation Waiver
All participants in the garden are asked to complete this waiver before attending the first class of the Children’s Vegetable Garden: https://forms.office.com/g/Kphtp2FZBv
