John Moretti: The Saber-tooth Cats of Texas

  • Urban Ecology Center Gathering Hall 8400 Northwest Military Highway San Antonio, TX, 78231 United States (map)

Icons of the Ice Age, saber-tooth cats were widespread across North America until their extinction nearly 12,000 years ago. Texas was no exception, with saber-tooth cats ranging from the High Plains to the Gulf Coast.

In this talk, Dr. John Moretti will introduce you to the saber-tooth cats that inhabited Texas during the Ice Age, and we will examine the ecology of these big, extinct cats. We will explore the size and appearance of saber-tooth cats, their diet, and the animals they preyed upon – all based on the latest scientific studies of these mighty carnivores.
