The Urban Ecology Center

at Phil Hardberger Park

The PHP Urban Ecology Center (UEC) opened in September of 2013 and includes 18,600 square feet of recreation and education space.

Designed by Lake Flato Architects, and constructed by Guido Brothers Construction, the UEC is built out of limestone and other materials native to the park. The $6.3 million PHP Urban Ecology Center overlooks the newly restored savanna and Golden Age, a commissioned art installation by San Antonio artist, Anne Wallace.

The PHP Urban Ecology is certified LEED Gold (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

The PHP Urban Ecology Center provides a natural sanctuary in the heart of an urban area. The UEC is designed to be used by the community for educational lectures, private parties, corporate events, business meetings, and weddings. The UEC has a 3,000 sq. ft. Gathering Hall and a 1,000 sq. ft. classroom available to rent.

UEC Classroom

The UEC Classroom is 1,000 sq. ft. , equipped with audio/visual capabilities including a drop-down screen and projector.

The Classroom accommodates 30 seated in a traditional classroom-style set-up.

It’s ideal for community meetings, classes, and continuing education programs.

UEC Gathering Hall

The Gathering Hall is a 3,000 sq. ft. venue adjoined by a 450 sq. ft. catering kitchen. The Gathering Hall accommodates seating for up to 225 people auditorium-style or 152 people for a seated dinner.

The Gathering Hall has large sliding windows which open to the Savanna and courtyard creating a seamless connection with nature.

The Gathering Hall is equipped with audio/visual capabilities, including a drop-down screen and projector. It is the perfect venue for a private event, corporate retreat, or educational lecture series.
