Get Hiking and Biking
Get active and get fit, hiking and biking the trails at Hardberger Park.
PHP East (13203 Blanco Road) has more than two miles of trails, including the Geology Trail and the Water Loop. Trail heads for these decomposed granite trails are near the Salado Creek Building and Outdoor Classroom. The Salado Creek Greenway North Trail begins at Huebner Road, makes its way through the park along Voelcker Lane and continues to the Walker Ranch Historical Landmark Park. Since the opening of the Walker Ranch segment, Salado Creek Greenway North extends 4.1 miles. The Voelcker Lane Trailhead is near the half-way point and has more than 70 parking spaces.
PHP West (8400 NW Military Hwy.) offers its own set of trails. Completely unpaved, the Savanna Loop Trail begins behind the Phil Hardberger Park Urban Ecology Center and can also be accessed from a trail leading from the playfields. It is 1.84 miles long. The Oak Loop Trail, also unpaved, is .84 miles and can be accessed from the short Savanna Trail that begins at the playground parking lot.
Pets are welcomed on all of the trails. They must be kept on a leash, and owners must clean up after their pets, including disposing of bags in trashcans. Mutt Mitts dispensers and trashcans are found at many of the trailheads, at the playgrounds and near buildings.
