The Master Plan/Project

After extensive community participation, the master plan for Phil Hardberger Park was completed and approved by City Council in May 2008.

Through implementation of the master plan, the park will provide for the development of outdoor recreational facilities on a unique public resource to meet regional outdoor recreational needs while at the same time providing for the preservation of ecological, cultural, and historical aspects of the land.

Themes for the master plan include urban ecology, renewal of the native landscape, education and sustainability.

Currently, the first phase of development for the park is underway. Specifically, initial development includes parking, trails, play field, pilot oak savanna restoration, Salado Creek overlook and classroom pavilion.

The City of San Antonio was awarded a $1 million grant from Texas Parks & Wildlife Department for Phil Hardberger Park on August 21, 2008 which will assist in implementing the first phase of development.

It is anticipated that a portion of the park will be open in early 2009 including a loop trail and parking off of Blanco Rd.
