Weekend Weed Warriors
Do you love getting your hands dirty? Do you learn best by doing? Do you want to make a difference in Phil Hardberger Park? Join the Weed Warriors as they work beside our park staff to beautify the park. WW's sometimes remove non-native plants, plant native plants, remove trash, and build and repair trails. The group meets every Wednesday plus the first Saturday of most months. It focuses on a different section of the park, depending on what is needed.
March 4th, meet at 9 a.m., at the PHP Urban Ecology Center (8400 NW Military Hwy). The group will remove woody species from the savanna as part of the savanna's continued restoration. Eye protection (sunglasses are fine), long pants and closed-toe shoes are recommended.
To assure that there are enough volunteers to complete the WWW project, registration is required. If fewer than 6 people sign up, the work day will be canceled. Register through this website. Gloves, trash bags, tools and insect spray are provided. Volunteers may prefer to bring their own gloves and are encouraged to bring their own water and eye protection (sunglasses are fine). Long pants and closed-toe shoes are also recommended. For more information call (210) 207-3292 or e-mail Wendy.Leonard@sanantonio.gov.
