Nature Walk: Trees of Phil Hardberger Park

This walk is led by Ron Tullius, who has a deep and abiding interest in trees.  Ron introduces the common tree species frequenting the park, with hopes of showing an Eve's Necklace, a Hogplum and a Lotebush among many other fascinating species.

Walkers should meet by 8 a.m. SHARP to register before the 8:10 a.m. departure. Beginning behind the Gathering Hall, the group walks along the Savanna Loop Trail, northwest thru the savanna restoration area, continues along the Oak Loop Connector to the Oak Loop Trail, then around the Loop.  Brief explanations are given at the start and along the way, with ample time for questions.

The Nature Walks are jointly sponsored by the Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy, the Alamo Area Master Naturalists and the Sierra Club.  The walks follow the same trails through the park each month, but with a focus on a different topic. Walkers learn from experts and see the changing beauty of the natural area through the seasons.

Minors are welcome when accompanied by an adult parent or guardian. Dogs are allowed if leashed and socialized. The trail is flat, with a natural surface. These 1.5 mile walks are slow-paced and suitable for families. Each lasts about two hours, ending back at the Urban Ecology Center around 10:15 a.m.

Walkers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes, to bring water and sun protection, and to dress appropriately for the weather.

Registration is not required. A donation to the Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy of $3 per individual or $5 per family is suggested.

Call the PHP Conservancy office for more information: 210-226-8339.
