Nature Walk: Sunrise Bird Walk
Birds are the focus of this walk. Three area birders regale you with their knowledge: Alan Kuentz, Patsy Kuentz and Lora Reynolds. You have the chance to see, identify and appreciate the most common birds in the area.
Walkers meet by 8 a.m. SHARP to register before the 8:10 a.m. departure. Beginning behind the PHP UEC Gathering Hall, the group walks along the Savanna Loop Trail through the restoration area, continues via the Oak Loop Connector to the Oak Loop Trail, then around the Loop. Brief explanations are given at the start and along the way, with ample time for questions.
The Nature Walks are jointly sponsored by the Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy, the Alamo Area Master Naturalists, and the Sierra Club. The walks follow the same trails through the park each month, but change the focus of the walk. Walkers learn from experts and see the changing beauty of the natural area through the seasons.
Minors are welcomed when accompanied by an adult parent or guardian. Dogs are allowed if leashed and socialized. The trail is flat, with a natural surface. These 1.5 mile walks are slow-paced and suitable for families. Each lasts about two hours, ending back at the PHP UEC around 10:15 a.m.
Walkers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes, to bring water and sun protection, and to dress appropriately for the weather.
Registration is not required. A donation to the Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy of $3 per individual or $5 per family is suggested.
